Franco Ambrosetti & Strings - "Nora"

At the International Jazz Competition organized by Friedrich Gulda in Vienna, he snagged the first prize in 1966. During his career spanning around six decades, Swiss star trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti performed with greats such as Kenny Clarke, Phil Woods, Joe Henderson, and Geri Allen, presenting an impressive discography.

With his new album "Nora," which he debuted at the Vienna Konzerthaus, he follows in the footsteps of Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown by incorporating rich string sounds. The arrangements were penned by multiple Grammy Award-winner Alan Broadbent, known to the Konzerthaus audience, among others, for his performances as a pianist in Charlie Haden's legendary Quartet West.

As in Quartet West, members of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra take on the string section. And with bassist Scott Colley and drummer Peter Erskine, long-time ingenious musicians from Ambrosetti's proven rhythm section are featured.
