Harald Krumpöck

Harald Krumpöck comes from a family of musicians, with several members having been or currently being part of Vienna’s two major orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He began playing the violin at an early age and studied under Heide Auersperg, Michael Schnitzler, Gerhart Hetzel, and Alfred Staar. In 1986, he received a scholarship from the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, USA, where he continued his studies with Joseph Gingold. In 1988, he was concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. He joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in 1993 and became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic in 1996. Since 2006, he has also been a member of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle.

As a soloist, he has performed in Germany, Hungary, Spain, Portugal, and Japan. He has been a member of various chamber ensembles and has collaborated with partners such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Lang Lang, Christopher Hinterhuber, Milan Turkovic, Matthias Schorn, Rainer Honeck, Volkhard Steude, Robert Bauerstatter, Tobias Lea, Gustav Rivinius, and Franz Bartolomey.

In recent years, Krumpöck's increasing focus on conducting seems a natural progression of his versatile musical personality. His conducting engagements have taken him to Belgium, Russia, and Romania.
